If you didn’t stay up all night on the 4th of July to binge the latest season of Stranger Things we’re hoping you’ve caught up on this long-anticipated third season. We hope you have because (SPOILER!) we loved watching Eleven, Jopper, Jancy, the Scoops Troop and the whole Hawkins gang work to beat the Mind Flayer before becoming one of the Flayed in this Netflix exclusive series.
From the outfits to the hairstyles, Starcourt mall stores to the “Gag me with a spoon” type phrases sprinkled about, the 80s nostalgia was strong on this one. While most of the crew was split up throughout the season, they were ultimately all fighting the same forces at work and this special DIY merges two of these groups into one sweet pair of kicks. You can show your fandom without having to wear a full Stranger Things costume.
See how Tara from Spot of Tea Designs transformed a basic pair of canvas shoes into Stranger Things Shoes inspired by Robin’s Scoops Ahoy uniform and El’s geometric romper.
Stranger Things Shoes Supplies
- Canvas Shoes (we went with black for this DIY!)
- Acrylic paint – red, pink, yellow, dark blue, light blue, dark green, light green, purple, white
- Paintbrushes – assorted sizes
- Stranger Things Shoes Template PDF
- Chalk or pencil
- Painter’s tape
First, tape up the soles of the shoes with painter’s tape.
Next, draw the basic shapes for the shoes. If you don’t trust your freehand painting skills, download, print and cut out the shapes on the Stranger Things Shoes template. Or simply use it as reference for the shapes used.
Work on a base coat. To create the Scoops Ahoy inspired shoe, paint a white collar and shirt, plus a blue vest and red scarf.
To create El’s 80s romper inspired shoe, paint the chunky shapes onto the black shoe.
Next, paint more details.
On the Scoops Ahoy inspired shoe, add a red stripe on the collar, blue stripes on the front panel and some shadowing to the red scarf. Paint the anchor front and center on the top of the shoe.
Paint layered details onto El’s shoe to really make the 80s come to life!
Remove the painter’s tape and be ready to rock the Aquanet and head to Sam Goody for the latest Wham! cassette!
