Let’s hear a big cheer for all the mascots out there. They are a special group of men and women who wear their mascot costumes even in the sweltering 100 degree heat of summer just to make us smile. I deliberately seek out the mascot at any sporting event I attend and give them by wholehearted applause. They give me comic relief, especially when my team is losing, they get the crowd up on their feet and they keeps the kids from getting board. If I’m lucky, the mascot will aim its t-shirt gun in my direction. Maybe this year I’ll catch one.
My family is a big supporter of local sports teams like our own Lakewood BlueClaws, a Philadelphia Phillies farm team. Not only can I count on them to for a great evening of baseball, I love their mascot, Buster. Many years ago my daughter was in the hospital over Easter and a visit from Buster was even better to her than a visit from the Easter Bunny. It was then that I realized the special value of mascots.
This year, the BlueClaws will spread the Mascot love with a program they call the Bushel of Entertainers. Perhaps your local minor league teams are doing it too. Some of the featured appearances will include The Phillie Phanatic, Wubzy, Yo Gabba Gabba, the Famous Chicken mascot, aka The San Diego Chicken, the Columbus Clippers Breakin’ BBoy McCoy and the Zooperstars.
Support your local team mascots or become one yourself. Wholesale Halloween Costumes is a great source of mascot costumes for any event.
