It’s not quite summer until the picnics and barbeques start. And there’s no better month to start than National Picnic Month. This July, celebrate with your family and friends and enjoy all of the foods and games that make a picnic a picnic!
If you’re a little rusty at planning a picnic, have no fear. Here are all the steps you need to follow to plan the perfect picnic.
Step 1: Make a Guest List and Pick a Location
Think about everyone you’d like to invite to your picnic. It could be a family get-together or fun with friends. Your guest list is one of the important steps to planning a picnic because you’ll want to get the best group of people together to enjoy a day of food, fun and sun.
Once you get the guest list together, you can pick the optimal location. Picnics aren’t just for parks. You can get your guests together in your own backyard! Make sure the location can accommodate your picnic, whether you need a grill, fields, park equipment and then send out the invites!
Step 2: The Menu
Arguably the most important part of any picnic is the food. Your guests are sure to work up an appetite so it’s good to make sure there is enough food and drinks to keep them happy all day long.
The best way to go is a potluck picnic. Ask all of your guests to bring something. It could be their favorite side dish, their best dessert or a new summer recipe they’ve been dying to try out. Now your picnic will have a variety of dishes that are sure to satisfy your hunger.
This is one step you don’t want to mess up!
Step 3: The Games
Picnic food and games are two things that go hand-in-hand. When you’re not eating or while you’re waiting for food to cook or arrive, it’s great to have different activities to keep your guests occupied. Some classic games include:
I could go on forever, but I think you get the point.
You can even make a tournament out of the day. Create teams and allow them to compete in various events like a water balloon or egg toss, sack races and much, much more. The winning team will get bragging rights and the losers will be dying for the next picnic so that they can redeem themselves.
Optional Step: Costumes!
We might be a little biased but there’s always an excuse to dress up in. Highlight the menu with a cheeseburger or hot dog costume.
If you’re hosting the picnic with your significant other, this Peanut Butter and Jelly Couple Costume is bound to be a laugh.
With all of the picnics this summer, yours will be the most memorable because of your humorous costumes!
Step 4: Enjoy and Relax
Now that all the food is in place and your guests have arrived, don’t forget to enjoy yourself. Planning any kind of party is stressful on the host but in the summertime, you just have to go with the flow. Picnics are so easy-going that there isn’t much that can go wrong (note: check the weather). And if something does go wrong, it’s not that hard to fix with the help of your guests.
Step 5: Clean Up
Leave the park, backyard, area in a better condition than when you arrived. This step is so important because it ensures that others can have the perfect venue for their picnics. Even if it isn’t a public place, the last thing you’re going to want to do is clean up after the fun for days afterwards.
The better you take care of the environment, the longer you’ll have it to enjoy!
