Now that the seasons are changing the time will soon come for friends to make their way to your house for a holiday visit. Each friend will follow your walkway to your front door for your Friendsgiving celebration. Give them a place to wipe their feet with a DIY doormat that fits the theme. We designed a free downloadable stencil with a message for the season. Our “Grateful Hearts Gather Here” phrase with a flourish filled script provides a warm message to kick off your Friendsgiving festivities.

Friendsgiving Doormat Supplies
- 18 x 30” Coir Door Mat
- Freezer Paper
- Acrylic Paint – browns, oranges
- Foam brushes
- X-acto Craft Knife
- Cutting Mat
- Painter’s Tape
- Friendsgiving Doormat PDF
This Friendsgiving door mat uses a freezer paper stencil you create on your own using the traditional X-acto knife method with a PDF template or using an SVG cut file and a cutting machine.
Either way, cut pieces of freezer paper that will fit your cutting mat, making sure to lay it shiny side down.
If you’re using the X-acto knife and PDF method, lay your template on top of the freezer paper, in the center, and use a craft knife to cut out the shape.
If you’re using a cutting machine, set it to the lowest material setting and center the design in the cutting mat window and cut out all the pieces needed.
Remember you’ll be using the negative part of this template but you will want to keep any inners of your letters or designs. Tip: there are a lot in this design so make sure you keep track of them!
Once it is all cut out, lay the freezer paper stencils down on your coir doormat.
Heat an iron and lay it over the stencils to adhere them to the doormat. Make sure to include those inners in position!
Use painter’s tape to cover any ends where the stencils are really close to the edge. You don’t want any paint to accidently get in the wrong part of the mat.
Apply paint on the stencils using a sponge brush and an up and down motion. Do NOT try to brush the paint on as it will chew your brush apart and might get paint under the stencil.
Tip: don’t be afraid to blend colors! We used several oranges to create the colorful leaf heart around the text.
Once the paint is dry, peel the freezer paper stencil away to reveal your new Friendsgiving door mat!
Place your door mat on your front step to welcome all your local friends or out of town guests for your Friendsgiving meal.
